ITINERARY of 4 Days desert tour from Casablanca
Day 1: Casablanca – Rabat – Fes
Your 4 day Morocco tour will start in the morning where you will be picked up from Mohammed V International Airport, your hotel, or wherever you are in Casablanca by one of our amazing local tour guides (prepare to be entertained – these guys are always up for a laugh)!
On the first morning, we will drive to the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, the largest mosque in Morocco and the seventh largest in the world. Then head to Rabat to explore the Hassan Tower. Unfinished mosque minaret. Here, you will also be able to visit the Mausoleum of Mohammed V.
After lunch in Rabat, we will head to Fes for dinner. Then sleep in a beautiful Riad in the Medina.
Day 2: Fes – Ifrane – Middle Atlas – Merzouga Desert
After a delicious breakfast at your riad, we leave Fes behind and head to the Merzouga Desert. Our first destination will be Ifrane, a beautiful city in the Middle Atlas Mountains. It is often referred to as the Switzerland of Morocco. After a quick stop here, we continue driving through the Middle Atlas Mountains. We will stop in the cedar forest for a while to see some rare Barbary macaques in the wild. Lunch will be at a restaurant somewhere along the way. Then continue traveling into the desert via Tizi n Talghamt and along the Ziz Valley.
Arrive in Merzouga (a small village on the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes) in the late afternoon. Here, your camels and your guide will be waiting to take you across the Sahara Desert to your desert camp. On the way to your camp, you will stop at the high sand dunes to watch a peaceful sunset over the giant sand dunes of Erg Chebbi. Then continue the journey.
You will be welcomed with a cup of tea as soon as you arrive at the camp. Rest in your private tent before dinner time. After a delicious dinner, you will have a seat around the campfire with the Berbers. Listen to some Berber music and share the culture while looking up at the starry sky.
Day 3: Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Canyon – Dades
Today, it is highly recommended to wake up early to watch the golden arrows of sunlight light up the scene. Enjoy a delicious breakfast at your camp. You can leave the camp either by camel again or by 4×4 vehicle.
If it is Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday, we can visit the traditional Moroccan market in Rissani, then head to Tinghir. We will stop at a panoramic view of palm trees and Berber villages. Continue driving along the Todra River until we reach the deep Todra Valley. Enjoy walking beneath these 300-meter-high cliffs.
After that, we will head to our final destination of the day, Dades Gorge. We will visit an area that was at the bottom of the sea millions of years ago. The place contains large amounts of sediments. You’ll also enjoy a panoramic view of the winding road before heading to your hotel.
Day 4: Dades Gorge – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech
On the last day of your 4-day desert tour from Casablanca to Marrakech, we will start our journey to Marrakech after having a delicious breakfast at your hotel.
First, we will head to Ouarzazate via the city of Kelaat M’Gouna, known for its valley filled with flowers during the spring. In Ouarzazate, we will head to the Atlas Studio (the largest film set in the world) where you can visit it (optional).
Secondly, we drive to the ancient Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a striking example of southern Moroccan architecture. The fortified city was the setting of many famous films such as Prince of Persia, Lawrence of Arabia, The Mummy, and The Gladiator. It even became Yunkai City in Game of Thrones.
Third, after exploring the Kasbah, we will head to Marrakech through the landscape of the High Atlas Mountains and via the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass, which reaches an altitude of 2,260 meters (7,415 feet) above sea level.
